Tóm tắt

Ocean-fantasy with xianxia-influenced progression, adventure, and political intrigue. Epic and atmospheric — underwater scenes feel alien, vast, and terrifying; surface scenes carry a grounded, scheming political tension. The prose evokes pressure, darkness, bioluminescence, and silence. Combat is three-dimensional: no ground, no sky, attacks from every direction. Target readers: fans of progression fantasy, system-based power growth, deep world-building, and adventure stories with mystery eleme

Nhân vật (10)

Vorca

Sea Lord / antagonist

Sea Lord of the Abyss Zone (1000-3000m). A massive, armored creature that once was a merfolk general. Centuries of living in crushing darkness have warped him into something barely recognizable — part crustacean, part anglerfish, part something with no name. He controls the second Sea Core and guards the approach to the Deep. He is paranoid, territorial, and views all surface-dwellers as invaders. His grievance is real: humanity's pollution and resource harvesting have destroyed the Abyss Zone's ecosystem for generations.

Selkie

Sea Lord / trickster antagonist

Sea Lord of the Reef Channels — the network of passages between Floating Cities. Selkie appears as a sleek, seal-like creature that can mimic human voices and faces by wearing stolen skins. She is a merchant, an information broker, and a manipulator. She controls a Sea Core but has no interest in power — she trades in secrets. Her grievance: the Floating Cities treat the reef channels as highways, dumping waste and anchoring structures that destroy coral. She wants compensation, and she will use every trick to get it.

The Drowned God

cosmic background force / ultimate antagonist (environmental)

Something older than Tethys, older than the Sea Lords, older than memory. Before the ocean existed, the Drowned God sank into the world and became the sea. Its body is the ocean — currents are its blood, tides are its breath, storms are its emotions. Reality as everyone knows it — the land, the sky, the Floating Cities — is the Drowned God's dream. If it wakes, the dream ends. Everything becomes ocean. The Drowned God does not speak, does not appear, does not have a face. It is the pressure at the bottom of the Trench. It is the reason the deep feels alive. It is the final question: can something that IS the world be saved from itself?

Tethys

cosmic force / sleeping god

An ancient leviathan the size of a small continent, sleeping at 8000 meters depth for over 10,000 years. Tethys is not a character in the traditional sense — it does not speak, it does not act with intention. It dreams, and its dreams shape the ocean currents. It breathes, and its breath is the tides. It thrashes, and tsunamis swallow coastlines. Tethys is the Drowned God's most vivid dream — a child-dream of power and chaos. If it wakes fully, the Drowned God stirs. If it is soothed, the ocean calms. Nereid was born from Tethys's dream, making her the only bridge between the sleeping god and conscious thought.

Nereid

key supporting character / love interest

A 200-year-old merfolk girl who appears sixteen. She was trapped for a century in the boundary between the Abyss Zone and the Deep Sea, guarding the ruins of the Abyssal Library. In truth, she is Tethys's daughter — born from the sleeping god's dream two centuries ago. She is bitter, lonely, and distrustful of both humans and Sea Lords. She knows the ocean's secrets but has no one to share them with until Kai arrives. Her existence is the key to soothing Tethys: if the sleeping god senses its daughter nearby, it might calm. But if it wakes fully, Nereid will be the first thing it reclaims.

Coral Queen

mentor / hidden antagonist

Sea Lord of the Shallow Sea. Appears as a woman sculpted from living coral — beautiful in an alien way, with branching growths that shift color with her emotions. She thinks in centuries and views humans as mayflies. She becomes Kai's mentor, teaching him to navigate the ocean's politics and his own evolving body. But she is not what she seems: she is a fragment of the Drowned God — the part that loved and nurtured. When the Drowned God sank into sleep, this fragment broke free, took coral form, and forgot its origins. If she remembers what she is, she could either save the ocean or accelerate the Drowned God's awakening.

Admiral Hwang

primary antagonist (surface)

Commander of the Floating City Alliance navy. A man in his fifties whose family was killed by a Sea Monster attack when he was young. He is not cruel — he is desperate. He has spent decades developing a plan to use all 7 Sea Cores simultaneously to evaporate the ocean and free humanity from the sea's threat forever. What he does not know — or refuses to accept — is that the ocean is the Drowned God's body, and evaporating it would release the god's consciousness into the sky. The clouds would become the new ocean. Everything would drown in rain. Hwang is the mirror of Kai: both want to save humanity, but Hwang's salvation requires destroying the ocean, while Kai's requires merging with it.

Kai

protagonist

Eighteen-year-old orphan and deep-sea diver from Floating City Tidecrest. Reckless underwater, terrified of heights on land. After a fatal dive, the Abyss System activates in his dying body and resurrects him — but only in the ocean. As he evolves through Abyss Stages, his body transforms: gills slit open his neck, his skeleton thickens, bioluminescent markings spread across his skin, and his eyes become those of an abyssal creature. By mid-story he can no longer breathe air. By endgame he transcends humanity entirely, merging with the ocean as its living consciousness. He is the bridge between the human world and the deep, and the cost of that bridge is his body, his home, and eventually his self.

Warden Graves

supporting character / Diver Guild master

The aging master of Tidecrest's Diver Guild. A former deep-diver who lost both legs to a Sea Monster and now runs the guild from a wheeled chair. He sees Kai's talent and pushes him harder than anyone — not out of kindness but because the guild needs divers who can go deeper. He knows more about the Abyss System than he lets on: his own wife was a diver who went too deep and never came back, and she spoke of a voice from the deep before she disappeared.

Finn

supporting character / rival-turned-ally

A fellow diver from Tidecrest, same age as Kai. Finn is everything Kai is not on the surface — sociable, pragmatic, politically savvy. He climbs the Diver Guild ranks through connections rather than recklessness. He resents Kai's raw talent but respects his courage. After Kai's transformation forces him underground, Finn becomes his eyes and ears on the surface, feeding information and supplies. Finn represents the human world Kai is losing — every time they meet, the gap between them grows wider.
