The Immortal Bun Vendor
Tóm tắt
Comedy xianxia. A cultivation novel where the most powerful man in the world got there by getting beaten up every single day. The tone is lighthearted, absurd, and self-aware — the narrator knows this is ridiculous and leans into it. Think Monty Python meets a cultivation novel. Physical comedy drives action scenes; deadpan inner monologues contrast with escalating chaos. The world plays its xianxia tropes completely straight, which makes Jake's modern-guy bewilderment funnier. Target readers: E

Nhân vật (8)
Victor Ashford
antagonistA 22-year-old heir to the Azure Sword Sect, Core Formation Stage 1. He represents everything wrong with the sect system: entitled, talented, convinced the world exists to serve him. When he encounters Jake in Volume 3 (during the sect recruitment wars), Jake's complete indifference to his status enrages him. Victor is the first real antagonist who represents systemic danger rather than individual threat — he can send sect disciples, restrict trade, and use political power, not just punch Jake.
The Demon King
final antagonistThe primordial enemy who was sealed by the Guardian God a thousand years ago. The Demon King represents pure destructive power — he exists to unmake, to consume, to end. He is not evil in a human sense; he is a force of nature given consciousness. When he awakens, he recognizes the Guardian God's power in Jake and is genuinely confused — why is the most powerful defensive being in existence selling buns in a market?
Old Chen
mentor figureA 70-year-old herb seller in Jade Creek Market, Foundation Building Stage 8. He has been in the market for forty years and has seen everything. He is the first person to suspect Jake is more than he appears, not because he's clever, but because he's seen too many 'coincidences' around the bun vendor. He provides cryptic advice that is actually just common sense disguised as wisdom, and Jake is the only person who realizes this.
Jake Turner
protagonistA 28-year-old former office worker from Chicago who died choking on a steamed bun at a food truck and reincarnated into a xianxia world holding that same bun. Has no spiritual root and cannot cultivate. Carries an indestructible bun cart that is simultaneously his livelihood, identity, and weapon of passive-aggression. The Thousand Strikes Body system grants him EXP and stat growth only when he is hit — if he attacks anyone, he loses EXP; if he kills anyone, all stats reset to zero. This makes him a professional victim who must provoke people into hitting him without technically fighting back. In his past life, he was the Guardian God who sealed the Demon King, though he remembers nothing of this.
Big Mike
supporting character (antagonist-turned-ally)A 30-year-old local thug and enforcer in Jade Creek Market. Foundation Building Stage 2. He makes his living shaking down vendors for protection money and has beaten up everyone in the market at least once. When Jake arrives, Big Mike treats him as just another punching bag — until Jake starts smiling after every hit. This breaks something in Big Mike's understanding of the world. He is not intelligent but he has excellent survival instincts, and those instincts are screaming at him that something is very wrong with the bun vendor.
Frost Queen
supporting character (antagonist-turned-ally)A 25-year-old princess of the Frost Kingdom, Nascent Soul Stage 3. She is an ice cultivator of extraordinary talent who has never been disrespected in her life — until Jake accidentally spills hot soup on her silk robes in a market noodle shop. She strikes him in fury. He smiles. She has never met anyone who did not fear her, and she does not know how to process this. She follows Jake partly out of grudge, partly out of curiosity, and partly because she suspects his power may be relevant to a threat facing her kingdom.
Blade
supporting character (mentor-turned-disciple)A 40-year-old traveling swordsman, Core Formation Stage 5. He has spent twenty years wandering the continent seeking the ultimate sword technique, and he's found nothing but disappointment. When he passes through Jade Creek Market and Jake insults his sword ('that thing looks like a butter knife'), Blade strikes him — and Jake smiles. Blade becomes obsessed. He has never encountered a martial art that rewards being hit, and he becomes convinced Jake is hiding a supreme technique. He follows Jake everywhere, taking notes, asking questions, and driving Jake absolutely insane.
Lily
supporting character / love interestA 16-year-old flower seller in Jade Creek Market and the first person to treat Jake with genuine kindness. She has low-level cultivation talent (Qi Condensation Stage 3) but no interest in the warrior path — she just wants to sell flowers and eventually open a real shop. She doesn't know about Jake's Thousand Strikes Body for most of the early story, thinking he's just an unlucky mortal vendor who keeps getting beaten up. Her kindness is not naivety — she grew up in the market and knows exactly how brutal the cultivation world is; she chooses compassion anyway.
